Obituary of Murray Franklin Gault

It is with great sadness the family of Murray Franklin Gault announce his passing, which occurred on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on May 26, 1932 to the late Harold B. and Margaret (Carleton) Gault in Saint John, NB. Murray graduated from Saint John High School in 1949 and went on to work for the Bank of NS in Saint John and Belleville, ON. He returned to NB to enter the family business, Gault General Store, in Grand Bay. In 1962 he started a general insurance business which grew to become McAuley, Gault and Boudreau Ins. Ltd. in Saint John West. He was a former member of South Branch Fishing Club and an avid Liberal, and carried the Liberal banner in the elections of 1956 and 1974 in Kings Co. Murray served as Village Clerk in both Grand Bay and Westfield and later was elected as a councillor in Westfield. He was also elected President of the Fundy Royal Liberal Assoc. in 1978. Murray was a friend of Bill Ward and a member of the West Side Group since 1987. In 2002, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal for his service to his fellow man. Murray is survived by his children: James (Terry) Gault and Sandra Scott (Craig Yakimchuk); sisters: Gloria Vokes and Margo Hobart; grandchildren: Samantha Rankin, Melody Rankin, Jamie-Lynn Page, Mindy Gault and Robbie (Melanie) Owen; six great grandchildren; and special friend Jean MacDonald. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Hilda (Greer) and brothers in law Ted Hobart and Murray Vokes. In recent years he wrote humourous stories of his good ole days in Grand Bay-Westfield, published in the River Valley News, which was enjoyed by many. The family would like to extend a special thanks of appreciation to Murray's caregiver Elva Rogers for all the compassion and support shown to him. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd., Saint John West, NB (634-7425) with visitation on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The memorial service will be held from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances in memory of Murray may be made to the Lung Association of NB, the Lonewater Farm or a charity of the donor’s choice.
