Obituary of Donald Murdoch Morrison

It is with great sadness the family of Donald Murdoch Morrison, husband of the late Constance Amina (Hatfield), announce his passing, which occurred on August 14, 2016. Donald was born in Saint John on May 24, 1925, attended Saint John High, then went on to serve with the Royal Canadian Navy in both Canada and the North Atlantic. He was a graduate of UNB with a BSc in Geology. Don married Connie, the love of his life, in 1951 and moved her and their family to Schefferville in 1959, where he was a pioneer in the development of the iron ore mines of Quebec and Labrador. After 25 years, he retired to Sand Point on the Kingston Peninsula, where he happily spent the remainder of his years. Don was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, served on the executive board of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 – Kingston Peninsula, Board of directors of Kingston Peninsula St. John Ambulance Division 844, Board of Stewards of Westfield United Church, and was a longstanding member of the Sand Point Outing Association. Don will be missed by his children Douglas (Cathy) Morrison, of Bayswater, NB; Jim (Jan) Morrison, of Bridgewater, NS; Bruce (Fran) Morrison, of Beaumont, AB; and Kathy (John) Calvin, of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; brother Daryl (Ann) Morrison, of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB; sister Marianne White, of Oromocto, NB; sister in law Joyce Mundee, of Saint John, NB; 12 grandchildren: Becky, Scott, Peter, Russell, Annie, Andrew, Jenny, Mindy, Laura, Alex, Andrew and Elizabeth; and 11 great grandchildren. The family would like to extend a special thanks and sincere gratitude to Donald’s housekeeper of 21 years Frances Scallan, Dr. Keripe and Dr. Webb for their care and compassion, and to the Sand Point and Kingston Peninsula communities for their fellowship and kindness. Aside from his parents and wife Constance, he was predeceased by his eldest sister Agnes Collins and twin brother George Morrison. Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd. Saint John West, NB (634-7425) with visitation on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a Legion Service starting at 7:00 PM.
