Dear Joan, I was sitting at the boarding gate when I heard the news. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I was on my way to see your smiling face one more time. I will miss you so much but will always remember your smiling face. I will always remember the good times - from sharing my bed on Francis St, to playing Yatzee, to visiting Cathy down in St George and stopping to buy pies on the way home, to lunches and shopping with Bette, to you giving me heck for cooking lobsters in your kitchen -but like you always said - you do what you gotta do. And to our recent conversations- who cares if they sounded like broken records. And the way you said Lord love a duck. I always loved how you ended our conversations with 'when are you coming to visit'. It always made me homesick -you have the heart of a true Maritimer and I aspire to be like you. I have a poem for you.. Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the sofXOt starts that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die. You will always and forever be alive in my heart. I love you and miss you. XOXO

Aunt Joan, Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a strong mentor to melissa and I when we were young. That constant positive leader in our lives. I attribute much of who I am today, to you. I will always remember Sundays sitting in the choir with you and singing. Melissa and are so fortunate to have shared that part of your life with you. Love you so much and Thank you for all you have done! Heather XO
