Obituary of Gerald Eugene Merriam

It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Gerry Merriam, loving husband of the late Marie (Smith) Merriam, announces his passing which occurred on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on January 2, 1929, Gerry was a son of the late Calvin and Blanche (Venus) Merriam. Gerry was a pilot with Atlantic Pilot Authority for 30 years before retiring. He was a veteran of the Merchant Navy. Gerry was a long-time member of Grand Bay Baptist Church and served as Trustee and Deacon for many years. He was a talented woodworker and took many opportunities to remodel their home and church. Gerry travelled all over North America with his wife, Marie and shares many happy memories of traveling with his children and other families from church. He will be missed by all who knew him. Gerry will be fondly remembered by his surviving family, his children: Dawn (Larry) Locke of Grand Manan, Paula (Gordon) Whitman of Browns Flat, Jean Merriam of Calgary and Beth (David) MacLeod of Grand Bay, his 8 Grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Gerry was predeceased by his wife Marie and his brother Donald Merriam. Gerry’s family wish to express their appreciation to Sam Paisley, Yvonne McQuade, Don Pickle and Rebecca McKinney, along with Gerry’s neighbours: the Montfords, Taylors and Savoys, for the loving care they provided for their father. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 6 from 2-4 and 6-8 at Grand Bay Baptist Church, 77 Woolastook Drive.
