Obituary of Charles Harold Purcell

The family wish to announce Charlie’s passing, which occurred on September 1, 2016 at Carleton Kirk Lodge, his residence for the last two years. Charlie (The Tab Man) was born on December 18, 1926 in Fairville, West Saint John. He was the son of the late William and Emma (McIntyre) Purcell. Along with his parents, Charlie was also predeceased by his loving wife of 51 years Dorothy (Kennedy) Purcell in 2008; brothers, Edward, Raymond, Clarence (Ted) Robert and Burton; as well as sisters, Audrey Paisley and Pauline Linton and an infant twin sister, Helen. Charlie spent his working life at Irving Pulp & Paper for 44 years before retiring. He also served as a volunteer firefighter in Fairville Station #1. Charlie enjoyed life camping at Mic Mac Trailer Park every summer, washer tossing, fishing, berry picking and Mother Nature. For the past ten years Charlie was a can tab collector and became "King of Tabs". Thursday night you could see him enjoying coffee at Tim Hortons, Simms Corner. "If you can’t be good be careful". Charlie is survived by his children; son, Patrick (Pat) Purcell (Bernice) and daughter, Carolyn Leger (Alvin); grandchildren, Jillian and Jaclyn Purcell and Angela and Marc Leger (Jen Sambles); as well as sisters, Phyllis Clarke and Connie Lockhart and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, West Saint John (634-7425) with visiting on Friday September 9, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The funeral service will be held from Carleton Kirk United Church, 1 Carleton Kirk Place, West Saint John on Saturday September 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Westmorland Road, Saint John. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
