Obituary of Frank Ashbrooke Simpson

Surrounded by his family, Frank Ashbrooke Simpson passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 7, 2016, after a long courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69. Frank was predeceased by wife Carol Anne (Theriault). He is survived by his sons Tony (Lamby McGuire) and Andrew (Jodie Arrowsmith) as well as his wife Joanne (Williams McQueen) and her sons Steve (Erin) and Kevin (Krista) as well as his grandchildren Tyler, Tristan, Jenna, Brooklyn, Taylor, Keagan, Cooper, Bella, Wyatt, Joel, Austin, Nick, Alyssa, Ethan and Jaden and two great granddaughters. Frank is also survived by his mother in law Mary McGuire and several sister and brother-in laws whom he loved and cherished as siblings. He was also predeceased by his parents Frank and Constance and sister in law Theresa Russell. Frank enjoyed his career in the Royal Canadian Navy, travelling the world before settling down to have a family. After the Navy, he worked in logistics with Speedway Transport, D’Anjou Transport, Coastal Transport, Kingsco Transport, Irving Shipbuilding as part of the First Crew of the Frigate Program and finally as the shuttle driver for Saint John Hyundai. He, as a founding officer of #268 RCSCC Bras d’Or in Quispamsis in 1978, influenced many young youth during those years to go on to do great things. Frank was also a charter member of the Hampton Lions Club where he remained active volunteering in the community for many years. Frank and Carol spent many great and fun times with the Getson’s, Broome’s, Owens’, Hartford’s and Duncan-Hines’. During the winter months, Frank could be found in the bowling alleys where he made many friends and met Joanne who put a smile on his face for the years that they were fortunate enough to spend together. He bowled in the Triple Crown Candlepin Tournament, the Lou and Mary Vaughan Memorial tournament since its beginning until he couldn’t any longer but really enjoyed the Can-Am tournament where he enjoyed everyone's company and was fortunate to be able to attend for a short visit this spring and see everyone again. In summer, Frank was an avid golfer at the Hampton Golf Club and in later years at the Welsford Golf Club with his golfing buddies Ron Hines, Ron and Jeff Scovil. All year round, however, when Frank lived in Hampton, he could be seen "jogging", some would call it fast walking, usually in the traffic lanes, making cars move over to avoid him. In recent years Frank enjoyed weekly breakfast dates with his buddy Mike Owens. The family of Frank would like to thank Dr. Dan Scott, Dr. Samantha Gray, Dr. Julia Wildish and the nurses and support staff of 3BN and the oncology department as well as the staff of Saint John Hyundai for their kindness and care during his illness these past years. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated by the family in Frank’s honour to The Navy League of Canada, NB Division, the local Lions Club of the donor’s choice, or a charity of their choice. Visitation will be held at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425) on Wednesday, August 10 from 2-4 and 6-8. A memorial service will be held at HMCS Brunswicker on Thursday, August 11 at 11:00 AM.
