Obituary of George Leslie Ernest McKay

It is with heavy hearts that the family of George Leslie Ernest McKay, loving husband of Barb (Robertson) McKay, announces his passing which occurred on July 31, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born on June 10, 1931, he was a son to the late Frank and Liz (Driscoll) McKay. George was a familiar face at the Buccaneer’s Pub, being employed as a bartender for 44 years. Outside of work, he was best known for his bowling game and being a member of the 400 Club. George also enjoyed golf, hunting, camping in Cambridge Narrows, playing cards and sitting with his cat, Saucy. He had many opportunities to travel with Barb to places like Cuba, BC and Daytona being his favourite. He was a proud father of his 4 children, was much loved by all of his family and will be dearly missed by those who knew him. George is survived by his wife Barb, their children: Susan (Jim) McNamara, Dana (Jennifer) McKay and Ramona (Sylvain) Pilote, his grandchildren: Timothy and Corey McNamara, Shawnie McKay and Taylor Connolly, 4 great grandchildren, his siblings: Joan Bizeau, Marion (Billy) Milne, Bobby (Nancy) McKay and Margaret (Ross) Wetmore, brother-in-law Jim (Shelia) Robertson and nephew Jason Robertson, his very close friend Pauline Allen along with many nieces, nephews and members of his extended family. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his son Terry. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425). Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3 from 3-6 PM with the Memorial Service to follow at 6:30 PM in the Bay View Chapel. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the SPCA- Animal Rescue or to a charity of donor’s choice.
