Obituary of Barbara Jane Kirkegaard
Barbara Jane (Leslie) Kirkegaard of Quispamsis, NB passed away on October 28th, 2024 at Kingsway Care Center. She was born in Northwest Harbour, Deer Island, NB on July 30th, 1934. Barbara was a graduate of Mount Allison Business College and worked at NBTel for several years. She and her husband owned and operated Mother’s Inn Restaurant on Rothesay Avenue for twenty years.
Barbara was a dedicated and beloved Mother, Gran’ma and Olemor. She was a leader of young people in her church, a choir member and an avid quilter. She loved singing and enjoyed participating in choirs. Barb, alongside her husband, volunteered at Kingsway Care Center for many years. She loved gardening and picking flowers. Being near water brought her great joy. She was cheerful and kind to all.
Barbara is survived by five children, Hugh (Lois) of Bedford, NS, Daniel (Sandra) of Delta, BC, Annalise (Kirkegaard) Larsen, Rebecca Kierstead (James) and Katrina Lee (Brian), all of Quispamsis, NB; cherished grandchildren, Heidi, Maja, Britta, Zachary, Jonathan, Nathan, Aunicka, Karina, Kristin, Abram, Joshua, Kersti, Olivia, Tiana, Isabella; 20 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and her sister Alice Mae Hansen. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Ejgild, of sixty-one years, her parents Archie and Mabel (Eaton) Leslie, two sisters, Margaret Patterson and Sarah Jean MacDonald, and three brothers, Richard, Melbourne, and infant Clayton.
Her family is very grateful for the wonderful love and care Barbara received from all the staff at her Kingsway Care Center home.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). With visitation on Sunday, November 3rd from 3 - 6 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday November 4th at 1 p.m. from Kennebecasis Baptist Church (383 Hampton Road, Quispamsis). She will be laid to rest in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances to Kingsway Care Center or the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
