Obituary of Genesta Valerie Khanna
It is with profound sadness that the family of Mrs. Genesta Valerie (Yates) Khanna announces her passing at Kings Way Care Centre, Quispamsis, NB on October 17th, 2024.
Born in Portland, Maine on April 1, 1945, Genesta was the daughter of the late Rev. Harold R. Yates and Mrs. Alice Maud (Bird) Yates. She was married for 53 years to her devoted husband, Dr. Verinder Nandkishore Khanna, who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brother Raeburn Yates (Lin).
Genesta is survived by her two sons Nitin Khanna (Shanna) and Rajesh Khanna (Lisa), and her cherished three grandchildren, Alexis, Isabel and Devin.
Genesta spent her early years growing up in Rumford, Maine. She obtained her Nursing degree from the New England Deaconess Nursing College and worked in the Coronary Care Unit in the Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Mass. That is where she met the love of her life, Verinder. They were married in 1970, with ceremonies in both Rumford, Maine and West Warwick, RI. Together they moved to Halifax, NS before ultimately settling in Rothesay, NB in 1972.
Throughout her life, Genesta was known for her warm smile, love of music and dedication to her family and friends. She spent countless hours driving her sons around to all their activities with unwavering love and support. She was always there to celebrate joyful victories and console in the face of challenges. She was known for hosting amazing dinner parties for her many close friends in the community. Along with Verinder, she has travelled to all corners of the planet, including numerous trips to India, becoming a beloved member of the family there.
The family are forever grateful for the kind and loving care that Genesta received at Kings Way Care Centre.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis.
Donations in memory of Genesta may be made to the Kings Way LifeCare Alliance or St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.
