Obituary of Glenna Florence (Henderson) Gaunce
Glenna Florence (Henderson) Gaunce passed away on September 17, 2024 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Mom was born July 13,1935 to the late Gordon and Grace (Cody) Henderson. She was raised and resided in Saint John, NB for most of her life. (a pitstop at Cambridge-Narrows)
Glenna will be sadly missed by her loving children: Stephen (Julie) Gaunce, Phillip (Lynne) Gaunce and Andrew ( Lynne) Gaunce. She was a cherished Grandmother (often saying that each Grandchild was a special gift to know and love) to: Allyson (Jason) Garnett, Cameron (Andrea) Gaunce, Brendan (Heidi) Gaunce, Adam (Alicia) Gaunce, Ryan Gaunce (Laura Hanusiak), Jonathan Gaunce (Lauren Sullivan), Emily Gaunce (Michael Forestell) and Benjamin Gaunce. She was truly blessed to be a loving Great-Grandmother to: Carter, Harper and Miller Garnett, Jack and Charlie Gaunce and Ruby Gaunce. She also leaves behind her Sister, Shirley (Stan) Malouin; Brother, Doug (Carol) Henderson; Sister-In-Law, Carolyn Danells and Brother-In-Law, Fred (Nancy) Gaunce. There are also several Nieces and Nephews left to mourn her passing.
Mom was predeceased by our Dad and her Husband, Harry Gaunce; Sisters, Grace and Judy Henderson; Brother, Jim Henderson and Sisters-in-Law, Phyllis Gaunce and Muriel Henderson.
Mom was proud of her Fairville roots and to have lived on the West Side. She attended Fairville Superior School and then Saint John High School. (we were led to believe that she excelled in academics).
Glenna enjoyed many years of trailering, both on the road and then a permanent spot at Wally’s Trailer Park. This led to a home in Cambridge-Narrows which served as a great gathering place every summer for her always expanding family. Friends enjoyed her hospitality year-round and this made for many great memories. It was her wonderful “Village on the Lake”.
She was an active member for many years at Germain Street Baptist Church and then Lancaster Baptist Church.
Mom enjoyed supporting community sports (with three sports minded sons, the involvement level was high), the Food Bank, Hospice and many other groups, especially after Dad volunteered her services.
Mom considered her Family, friends and her faith to be the cornerstones of her life and loved being involved with them all.
For the last 3 years, Carleton Hall at Shannex, was her home which she really enjoyed and where she made many great friends. The Family wants to thank everyone there. Also, a thank you to the Staff of 4C North at the Saint John Regional for their recent care and attention.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, Saint John (506-634-7424). There will be a Graveside Service at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, 1650 Manawagonish Road, Saint John, starting at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 28th.
