Dear Murdoch's
I was deeply saddened to hear about Hamish and Anne passing. My heart goes to you, Janet, Mary, Elspeth, Alex and your loved ones during this difficult time.
I feel grateful for the opportunity to have been Hamish's caregiver and witness the love and care you shared as a family. Your kindness, support, and generosity touched my life in ways you'll never know. Celebrating my birthdays and inquiring about my family back home made me feel seen and appreciated.
Although I couldn't visit or reach out after Hamish's transfer to hospice care, please know that you all remained in my thoughts and prayers. I miss our times together and cherish the memories.
May the love and legacy of Hamish and Anne continue to inspire and comfort you. May you find strength in your shared memories and peace in the knowledge that they're no longer in pain.
If there's anything I can do to support you, please don't hesitate to reach out.
With deepest condolences and love,
Sodiq

Dear Janet, Mary, Elspeth and Alex,
I have many good memories of your parents. As a child, I remember thinking that they had a fun parenting style, and from listening to the tributes at their service, it sounds like they really did. They were always welcoming and I remember the wonderful high school graduation party on the lawn of your home. I have also been impressed by the strong sense of family, for both immediate and extended family, that you all shared.
Abraham and I send our sincere condolences to all of you and to your families.

Janet, Mary Mouse, Elspeth & Sandy, I am so sorry for your loss. Your parents will be truly missed. Your Mom was an angel when my Mom passed away at the home. Mom always had a welcoming greeting for me “ Little Susie Heans” and your Dad always had a big bear hug and a kiss. I always felt loved and accepted. Wish I could have been at the service to hug you all but mobility issues prevent me from doing much. Thrilled to see Phillip as part of the service. John was amazing too. Love you all, Susan Buck.

We weren't able to attend in person due to a covid exposure but watched the service on line. I remember well Uncle Stuart and Aunt Leila but sadly that hasn't extended to the children, the effect of living in Alberta for the past 40 plus years. It was wonderful to get to know the family through the service.
I remember your Mom and Dad attending my Mom's funeral, Norma Ball, now over 20 years ago.
With kind condolences,

Anne and Hamish have left this mortal world having enriched all of our lives with their wisdom, their charity, their faith and their love. How fortunate many of us were to have shared in all of their endeavours at work, and at play. It does not seem comprehensible that they have gone, but as we reminisce about the unforgettable happy times we had with them, it brings them back as clear as day. We hope that brings joy and comfort to Janet, Mary, Elspeth and Alex and their families, as it does to us. Rest in peace Anne and Hamish.

Jim and I were very saddened to learn of the passing of Anne and Hamish. They were an amazing couple who gave so much to their community. We met this wonderful couple through my parents, Tim and Bernice Ellis of Rothesay. Anne and Hamish were always so thoughtful to friends like my parents, who were a good decade older.
I have a fond memory of attending with my parents one of Anne and Hamish's annual Hogmanay parties. I remember too their pride in their work helping get the Saint John Community Food Basket up and running. Hamish volunteered with my father on the Rothesay Heritage Trust board. Both Anne and Hamish were exemplary for their volunteer work and their kindness to so many in their community.
Jim and I send our most heartfelt condolences to all the Murdoch family.

It was at Church Home yesterday that I read of the passing of your parents. My sincere condolences to all of you. I had the joy of often seeing Anne at the Original Farmer's Market. She brightened up an already happy place! Her joy and enthusiasm were contagious. Then, Janet, your similar joyous and hopeful ways, brought encouragement to both Roy and me during a difficult time. Like mother, like daughter.! God bless you all as you walk these days of sadness and loss.

Karen & Norman Chantler posted a condolence
Tuesday, September 10, 2024
Janet, Dave, Mary, Elspeth, Dave, Alex, Jody (and families):
It is with a sad and grateful heart that we send sincere condolences to you on the loss of your beloved parents. Sad, that we will never get those random check-in calls again but grateful that these two people (and their family) entered our lives over 40 years ago.
I (Karen) first met this wonderful duo when I was hired for two weeks of work at an architectural practice at One Gondola Point Road on November 8, 1982. What resulted was almost 42 years of mentorship, guidance, friendship, love and laughter with Anne and Hamish and the entire Murdoch crew. We were fortunate to have Hamish give the toast to the bride at our wedding in 1988 and their love and loyalty to each other provided us with the best of role models as we began our married life. We still hear their words of wisdom whenever we need it and sometimes when we think we don't. We will always have "garbage eve" at the Chantler house!
From an office perspective, many students in architecture were mentored in that little grey building on the corner in Rothesay and those students have gone on to run successful practices because of the foundation they were given there. The Murdoch's always believed in positioning the next generation for success.
There are too many memories to share in a condolence message but to the Murdoch family - thank you for sharing your parents with all of us and for continuing your parents legacy by being the wonderful humans you are. Thank you for including us in this journey called life - the photo you shared in this wonderful tribute to them says it all - they enjoyed every moment of life they were given.
We will miss them beyond measure and so appreciated our last visit with them just a little while ago. In their honour and memory we will try and be the best we can be and live life by their example. The world need more people like them - not less.
RIP Anne and Hamish - we love and will miss you both.

Thinking of your family as you mourn the loss of such an amazing Mom and Dad. They shared so much of themselves with so many and truly are such an example of generosity and selflessness. I had the pleasure of spending time with them at St John St Stephen Nursing Home when they volunteered there. Also my husband worked as a young architect, for Hamish, who made such an impression on him. May the happy times you shared be the memories you cherish.

Janet, Mary, Elspeth and Alex,
Please know that the full force of the Hatfield Family is sending love, hugs and heartfelt prayers. Anne and Hamish are treasured and important people in our family story – a sentiment many share, I am sure. They impacted so many through their action, service and loving-kindness.
There is much we could write about, but the point of all of it would be to say that we love them and that we love all of you.
That said, I would like to share, for prosperity’s sake, really, this list…
When Jeff and I (erin) set off for our honeymoon in Scotland, Anne and Hamish came up to Mom and Dad’s to help us chart our visit. They gave us an atlas and many words of wisdom. I still have the notebook where we documented their advice. I share that here:
1. Go where the spirit takes you
2. Take bug spray
3. A slip road is a ramp
4. A layby is a passing lane
5. Visit Glenfiddich Distillery and check the washroom- it’s beautiful.
That list captures so much, including their faith, practicality, and delight in the everyday.
We will miss them and we are here for you. Imagine the fun Heather, Anne and Hamish are having!
Xoxoxo
Leroy (inside joke: Anne’s Betrothed), Erin (Jeff), Bonnie (Rob), Cal (Ashley).

As a young man I had the pleasure of completing a work term at Mr. Murdock's small office in Rothesay. Don Sterritt, Greg Murdock, Karen Chantler and I would watch as he would come out of the back office, make his way to the front door, pick from the floor papers purposefully set by the door and set off for home; to Anne and family. Hamish delighted in his life in Rothesay. Always did.
I was delighted a few years ago when out of the blue I received a call from Hamish. He had called to compliment me on my design of the Kennebecasis Public Library. I felt honoured!
Not so many weeks ago I was called to visit Mr. Murdoch at the Hospice. I found him so alert and so full of remembrances. He spoke of Anne, his daughters, his son, spouses and grandchildren, all with love and pride. He spoke of Rothesay, of skiing, of the good things in life.
He also complimented me on my design of the Hospice, asking how I solved the complicated elevator access.
I had hoped to visit a second time but that was not to be.

My dearest sympathy for the children and grandchildren of this amazing couple ,their deep faith and love for one another was evident in every single counter I’ve had the pleasure of having over the last 30 years .
I’ve been employed at St John StStephen Nursing Home during the past 30 years and have had so many wonderful chats with both of them .Annes love of our gardens and my love of gardening sparked hours of garden talks what we had blooming ,chats about the many residents they visited during countless hours of pastoral care ,talks about our kids and grandkids . Thier time spent in our Church Home was one of their legacy and the love and pride Hamish had for the building was prevalent in every conversation he beamed with pride discussing why certain architecture elements in our Nursing Home were chosen .He too worked the gardens and spent hours and hours visiting our residents one on one.
I’ve lost 2 beautiful friends and I cherish every single minute I had with them
I’m sure Anne went to Hamish and stayed till he was ready to leave our physical world and they walked hand in hand though Heavens gates what a beautiful testimony to the love ,and faith they had
I can only imagine the beautiful reunion they had with loved ones and friends in heaven
Goodbye my beautiful friends I will see you again
