Dear Nancy and family, please accept my sincere apology for this late tribute to Mack. Mack was a truly good man. My
experience with Mack was the many times I refereed his volleyball games and then when I taught at Saint John High.
I remember the many chats before and after the games. He was so nice that I use to arrive early to referee at
Saint John High just to be able to talk to Mack. He was very helpful to me. When I came to High School to teach
Mack helped guide me through the hard times at the school. He was indeed a very good friend. I remember exactly
When Mack introduced me to Mindy. I felt so privileged. I could go on and on with the many good times we talked.
Nancy and family please be at peace as best you can at this sad time knowing your husband , father was truly loved my so many people he touched. The world is a little darker now that Mack is not with us.
May Gods blessings be on the family.

He was one of my favorite teachers at SJHS. One of my long time memories was of meeting him in Red Head at the breakwater during a storm....the waves were coming over the rocks and I lived on the other side. He told me he would wait and make sure I drove safely though before he turned around and left. He was a great man. Hugs to his family.

Dear Nancy, Christy, Mindy & Families,
Arnold & I send our most sincere sympathy to all of you on the passing of dear Malcolm.
We were 'fierce rivals' in volleyball for many years. Our Teams,-SJHS/ St Vincent's back then, were the very best in NB.
Our Teams knew each other- comraderie was there! But on the court- Look Out! It was 'all business', sometimes
for even 2 hours ( when we competed each other in Bathurst ) - you know who won!! Such grace, kindness, genuine
interest in teaching/ coaching individuals- always made time to 'chat'where it be in gym or at TD Station. Mac always was
'getting the very best ' from his athletes, in his quiet, manner. Malcom will be missed dearly by many students who admired him as a Teacher/ Coach/ Mentor.
Life isn't over for Mac- just changed.
Thinking of Nancy, Christy, Mindy & families during this very difficult time. Love & Prayers today & the days ahead.

Please accept my deepest condolences for the loss of Coach Smith. I am forever grateful for his mentorship and guidance towards the SJHS AAA Boys Volleyball success back in the eighties. Mac instilled a passion for the sport which lasts to this day. His tutelage provided us a keen sense of teamwork and competition which has given me a connection I have used throughout my academic and professional career. Through operational deployments and postings across the world, “do you play” was answered by “I do.” That ability to integrate into new environments through competitive or recreational sport is a blessing that knows no bounds. Thank you for your patience, guidance, well deserved outbursts, and sage counsel.
God bless,
B.K. (Brian) Jones

My condolences to Nancy, Christy, Mindy and families. I always looked forward to visiting Mr Smith at his Beverly Dr home whenever I returned to SJ for brief visits with my ageing parents. I told Mac that I wouldn't likely attend his memorial because I preferred to visit him and swap stories instead. I'm glad I did...always an enjoyable visit with him and Nancy, and always departed with my heart warmed to witness such an "in love' couple. I was coached by Mac for 3 years of SHHS Volleyball, and remember more bodies than seatbelts cramming into the yellow Volvo as he drove the Forest Hills players home after. I think we ruined the suspension in that car...but had fun. But my most cherished memory of Mac was the day that he and teacher John Delong offered to take the tean fishing up Sussex...only 2 players ( Tom B and I ) showed....we went anyway. SO generous with his time and mentoring. Thanks Mr Smith. You were a great influence on my life and will be much missed. Greg H
