Obituary of Edwin Karl Cragg
August 3, 1958 - August 30, 2024
The passing of Ted Cragg occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on August 30, 2024, after a sudden illness. Ted was born in Atikokan, Ontario, the son of the late Robert and Natalie (Markowski) Cragg. He grew up in Chambly, Quebec, spending as much time as possible with his maternal grandparents at their farm in the Laurentien village of St-Calixte.
Ted is survived by his son Thomas William Cragg, of Saint John, twin sister Sharon Dorchak of Lethbridge, AB, younger sister Nancy Cragg (Ian Bentley) of St. Lazare, Quebec, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is also survived by good friends Tom and Belen Buckley of Sussex, and his beloved friend Nancy Riven of Saint John.
Ted studied geology at UNB and obtained a certificate in Industrial Instrumentation Technology from NBCC. He worked at several jobs including a window security business, taking early retirement for health reasons. Ted loved the natural world, especially Grand Manan where he would seek out fossils. He enjoyed reading, especially history and politics, and a good conversation. He was an accomplished cook, creating the best stir-fries and Caesar salad around. A lifelong Chicago Black Hawks fan, he was thrilled when his team won the Stanley Cup after 49 years in 2010. Ted was proud of his eastern European roots, and always cherished his connection to Montreal. The happiest times of Ted’s life were taking his young son on outdoor adventures.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). There will be no service or visitation. A family celebration of life will take place later. The family wishes to thank the Oncology Department of the SJRH for their care of Ted over the past two years. Thank you also to Dr. Luan Le, Dr. Mike Simon, Kelly of spiritual care, and Dr. MacKenzie Howatt and the excellent staff at ICU for their care of Ted and support of the family.
