Obituary of Rick White
It is with great sadness that the family of Richard "Rick" Everett White announces his passing which occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, July 29th, 2024 after a brief illness. Born in Saint John, NB, on January 3rd, 1945, he was the son of the late William and Ruby (Fitzgerald) White.
Rick leaves behind his loving wife Pam of 55 years; daughter, Jennifer (George) Oram of Saint John; son, Brian (Denise) White of Ottawa; four grandchildren, Matthew Oram (Caila Smithers), Ryan Oram (Emerson Arnold), Abigail and Hailey White; brothers, William (Marion) White and James (Peggy) White; sisters, Janice (Robert) Clements and Carol Whitney; sister-in-law, Ruth White as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rick was predeceased by his father-in-law, Robert Proctor; mother-in-law, Ruby Proctor; brothers, Robert White and David White; sisters-in law, Elaine White and Linda (Proctor) Thompson and brothers-in-law, Tony Thompson and Vern Whitney.
Rick was a graduate of UNB completing his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and later completing his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Upon completion he went on to begin his career as a teacher. Rick taught Middle School for most of his career, at various schools, later moving into positions of Vice Principal and Acting Principal for many years. Rick retired in 1998 after 32 years.
Rick was a true family man and his greatest joy was spending time taking drives and traveling with his wife Pam, gardening, golfing, bowling and cheering on his children and grandchildren in all of their sporting events and extracurricular activities. Rick was a genuine friend and had many lasting friendships.
Rick was an avid sportsman having played many sports in his younger years such as baseball. Rick coached basketball for many years, he refereed High School and University football and coached a CFL game at the UNBSJ field. Rick refereed volleyball at the Middle School, High School and University levels under Volleyball New Brunswick. In 2018 he received an award for Distinction for his outstanding years of service, commitment, contribution and leadership in the volleyball community. One of Rick's last contributions to sports was when he took on the role of Tournament Director for the Canadian National Little League Tournament that was hosted by team NB out of Saint John, NB. Rick loved to give back to his community.
The family would like to extend sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff of St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home as well as the nurses and staff in urgent care and of 4BS at the Saint John Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424) where visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Wednesday, August 7th, 2024 at 11:00 AM. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting Rick’s obituary on the Brenan’s website. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery.
