Obituary of Brian Raymond Lynch
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Raymond Lynch, beloved husband of Kathryn Lynch (nee Savage), of Saint John, NB, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at age 75. He is survived by their daughter Kari (Andrew O’Leary) and son Mark (Megan), and adored grandchildren Will and Lauren O’Leary (who knew him as GB). He is also survived by siblings Catherine (Peter Gibson), Gerry, Bernard (Linda), Leonard (Joan Lawson Lynch), Philip (Mary), and Michael (Kathleen), in-laws Burton Savage (Barbara), Lorraine Luff (Bill), Keith Savage (Annette), Verne Savage, and Blair Savage (Coune), and many nieces and nephews. Brian was predeceased by parents Gerry and Marjorie Lynch, parents-in-law Bernard and Marie-Reine Savage, nephew Myles Lynch, niece Chantal Savage and sister-in-law Louise Savage.
This tower of strength and character, while benefitting from the sports guidance of his proud father, made his own mark in local sports. After representing St. Malachy’s in rugby and basketball, Brian played both varsity basketball and varsity football during his three years at UPEI/St. Dunstan’s. He excelled with The Saint John Trojans Rugby Club, and with the Senior Team representing New Brunswick throughout the 1970’s and early 1980’s. The Trojans remained forever part of his social sphere after the
rugby boots were retired.
After graduation from UPEI in 1971, Brian obtained employment with Canada Revenue Agency where he had a rewarding 35 year career and retired as a Senior Manager. He enjoyed the professional relationships from within and outside of the CRA. Brian continued his bonds with his former coworkers socially into retirement.
When he met Kathryn Savage in 1979 he found the life partner that would be core to being Happy Brian forevermore. We were thrilled with their marriage in August 1983, and with the nest of love, support and caring this Beach Road Team provided Kari and Mark.
In retirement, Brian and Kathy took many memorable trips within North America, Europe and the Caribbean. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing the Camino (764 kms) with his life- long friend Paul Robinson. He loved reading, boating, working around his property, and spending time with family and friends, but nothing could surpass the enjoyment he got from his beloved grandchildren.
The Lynch and Savage families were proud of Brian’s integrity and humility. He was the ultimate giver, helping others that were in need. Friends and relatives who had the privilege of knowing him were beneficiaries of his hospitality, guidance, kindness and storytelling. You will be dearly missed, Brian.
Besides the support of our family, neighbours and friends (too many to list), the Lynch’s are extremely appreciative of the determined joint rescue coordination team that included the Saint John Fire Department, Saint John Police Force, Canada Coast Guard, Civil Air and Rescue Association, CFB Greenwood Search and Rescue, and the J Division RCMP Dive Team. The Lynch family is proud and thankful of this community’s involvement in times of need.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada or the charity of your choice. Condolences and memories are welcomed and so appreciated. They will be treasures to the family that are forever etched in words.
