Obituary of Lorna Hayes

Lorna Eleanor (Cecile) Hayes, wife of the late Thomas J. Hayes, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, NB. Lorna was the daughter of the late Maxime and Valeria Cecile. She was born on July 4, 1924 in Sudbury, Ontario. Married in Sudbury, Ontario in 1949, Lorna and Tom moved to Saint John, NB two years later and spent the rest of their lives there except for a short time living in Brownville Junction, Maine and Fredericton, NB. Lorna was never happier than when she was surrounded by family and friends. She and her husband Tom made everyone feel welcome in their home. Lorna had a great sense of humor and a zest for life. Lorna is survived by her children: Reg (Margot) Hayes of Fredericton, NB, David (Joyce) of Quispamsis, NB, and Valerie (David) Falkjar of Upper Letang, NB. Her grandchildren: Bronwyn (Stephen) Hayes; Lindsay, Thomas and Patricia Hayes, Alexandra (Pat) Halford; Danica (Mike), Paul (Samantha) and Max Falkjar and great-grand-daughter Lilly Hayes. Lorna is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other extended family. In addition to her husband and parents, Lorna was predeceased by all her siblings and their spouses: sisters, Margarete (Archie Dimmell, Fred) Perron, Maxine (Jim) Gerety, Evelyn (Ted) Muton, Dorothy (Sid) Stone, Alvira (Eddie) Dew, Helena (Art) Morgan, Eva (Thomas) Hambley, Marion (Cliff) Montgomery and brothers, Lawless (Renee) Cecile, Weldon (Kay) Cecile, Robert (Jackie) Cecile and Ernie (Lillian) Cook and Ralph Cecile, who died in infancy. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Rocmaura Nursing Home for the excellent care they provided to Lorna for the past seven years and the compassion they displayed during Lorna’s final hours as well as special thanks to Dr. A. Kristofferson. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Thursday September 29, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday September 30, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment will follow the service at Holy Cross Cemetery followed with a reception at the Denis Morris Community Centre.
