To all of Joy's family: I share in your sorrow at the death of your wonderful mother and grandmother. She was a special friend and I know how vital she was to all of you. But I hope you realize how much strength and life she drew from your love and she was quick to say that to everyone. That she would die on the eve of the Advent weekend of joy "Gaudete Sunday" is a reminder that her faith was a part of everything she did and all her actions and choices. You have so much to celebrate about her life and goodness. I regret, very much, that I am unable to be present for her wake or funeral but I have remembered her, and all of you, at Mass today. Thinking of lemon pie at the heavenly banquet brought a smile to my face. I know that you will draw strength in knowing that she and your Dad are interceding for you before the Throne of Grace.
