Obituary of Douglas Trueman Carter

Douglas Trueman Carter passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on April 26th, 2014 at Bobby’s Hospice. Born in Amherst, NS on July 6, 1920 he was the son of the late Henry and Delta (Schofield) Carter. He was a retired station manager for the Saint John West Post Office. Doug was a WWII Veteran, and served in England, North Africa, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #2. Doug was a founding member, life deacon and served as Pastor of Visitation of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was the Westside Food Bank founder and president for 17 years, past president of Heritage Club of NB and volunteer for meals on wheels. In 2003 Doug and Ann received the “Maritimer of the Week Award.” Doug is survived by Ann his loving wife of 73 years; three sons Doug (Pat) of Ottawa, Fred (Cheryl) of Greenwood NS, Bill (Judy) of Clandonald AB; two daughters Betty-Ann (Gerald) Taylor of Fredericton and Debbie Carter of Fredericton. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Doug was predeceased by one grandson Todd Carter. Resting at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Hillcrest Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 2:00pm with Rev. Andrew Morse Officiating.
