Obituary of David Thorne
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the peaceful passing of David Allison Thorne of Saint John on September 22, 2011 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on March 15, 1944, David was the son of the late Richard and Myrtle (Pike) Thorne. He is survived by his loving wife Sandra (Mason); Daughters Melinda (Kevin) Martin, Christine (Chris) Halcrow, son Gregory (Amy) and grandchildren Darrian, Laura, Sarah, T.J., Zachary, David, Anna, Graham, Daniel, and Alexander; brothers Phillip (Carol), Eugene (Barb), and Leslie (Lorna); sisters June Goss, Nancy (Jimmy) Levine, Carol (Billy) Gray. David will also be remembered by his in laws Charlie, and June, as well as many other extended family and friends. Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his brothers Bill (Anne), and Dick; sisters Shirley Adams, Norma (Don)Sambles, Connie (Frank) Murphy; and brother in law Harold. Married for 46 years, David was a loving husband and best friend to Sandra. David loved his family, spending time with his daughters, fishing, hunting, and golfing with his son and brothers. David was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church serving as a deacon and involved in many church roles, he lived his faith day by day with everyone he touched. He worked at Coates Distributors as the general sales manager for 42 years, David loved his job and those he worked with. He courageously fought his battle with cancer and went peacefully with his wife and family by his side. His memory will always hold a special place in our hearts. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Saturday September 24, 2011 from 7 - 9 p.m., and Sunday September 25, 2011 from 2 - 4, and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday September 26, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church. The interment will follow, and a reception at the church hall. The family would like to thank the Oncology Department of the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and compassion. Donations in David's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Hillcrest Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice.
