Obituary of Margaret Begner

Mrs. Margaret Theodora Begner passed away peacefully with her family at her side at Bobby’s Hospice, on January 3, 2014. Born in Datteln, Germany, on November 17, 1955, a daughter of the late Theodore and Hedwig (Schneider) Paus. Margaret was the owner and operator of the Opera Bistro and the Dufferin Inn. She was the founding organizer of the Fundy Food Festival, also the organizer of the Out of the Cold men’s shelter providing meals to the homeless. Margaret was also a member of the immigration board and Tourism New Brunswick. Margaret is survived by her loving husband Axel Begner and her son Mario Begner of Saint John; one brother Martin Paus (Angelica) of Germany; two sisters Gerda and Mechtild Paus both of Germany. She was predeceased by her parents. To honor Margaret’s wishes there will be no visitation, cremation will take place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday January 9, 2014 at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 12pm. A reception will follow the service at the Assumption Center.
