Obituary of Rita Craig

Rita Elsie Craig, widow of the late Walter Woodworth (Bud) Craig passed away peacefully at Kings Way Care Centre on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Born on November 8, 1915, Rita was 98 years old. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Kenneth and Elsie (Main) Murphy. Rita was predeceased by her siblings, Thomas, Ruby (Case), John and Helen (Janes); one son, Dr. David Craig and a daughter in law, Sharon. Rita was the last surviving member of her immediate family and very proud of her Irish heritage. She was an active member of St. Mark’s United Church, Westfield Golf and Country Club and the Carleton Curling Club. An avid curler and golfer, she played well into her senior years enjoying curling bonspiels in the winter and hitting the links in the summer. She and Bud also enjoyed many lively evenings playing bridge, canasta and 45’s with friends and neighbours. Rita liked to travel and accompanied Bud on several trips to England, Germany and the US in her younger years. After Bud retired, they continued to travel and spent many happy winters in Florida. Rita is survived by 3 sons; Drs Ron (Carol), Don (Anne), Brian (Heather) and daughter in law, Sally, all of Saint John; niece, Helen Case of Los Angeles, 9 grandchildren; Mark, Steven, Deborah Blanchard, Catherine Gillespie, Sean , Scott, Monique Hayes, Robyn and Michael and 14 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you for the compassionate and professional care that Rita received while a resident at Kings Way. The family would also like to express a special thank you to Kelly Craig, Dr. Bill Johnson and Dr. Jim Stevenson. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, NB. As per Rita’s request there will be no visitation. A private service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate remembrances made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer’s Society or a charity of your choice.
