Obituary of Fritz Karl Heinrich Klohn

With deep sadness the family of Fritz Klohn announce his unexpected death at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 17, 2014. Fritz was born in Kiel, Germany on February 12, 1926. After beginning his career in shipbuilding in Germany, Fritz immigrated to Canada in 1958 to join his brother Hans at Ocean Steel and Construction Limited and remained there until his retirement from the position of Vice President and General Manager in 1997. Fritz was a Freemason with the Grand Lodge of New Brunswick, Saint John district and an avid sailor and member of the RKYC for many years. Above all else, Fritz was a loving husband and father. Fritz is survived by his daughter Karen Klohn-Hanrahan (Steven), his brothers Hans (Anke) of Saint John, Dieter (USA), his sister Edith (Germany), and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Inge, his wife of 64 years, and his daughter Camilla (Fenety). During the past year Fritz enjoyed living at Concorde Hall, Parkland in the Valley and his family would like to thank the staff and management at Concorde Hall for the care and attention he received during his stay with them. They would also like to thank the doctors and staff of the Saint John Regional Hospital, specifically the Emergency Department, 5CNorth and the Palliative Care Unit, and special thanks to Dr. Cynthia Hobbs of the Geriatric Medicine Clinic at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and to Dr. William Irving. In accordance with Fritz’s wishes, there will be a private committal service in Long Reach United Church Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
