Obituary of Dorothy Winnifred Thompson

On November 22nd, 2013 at her residence in Saint John, Dorothy "Dot" Winnifred (Garnett) Thompson, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with her Lord and Saviour. Born August 8th, 1926 in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Laura (MacArthur) Garnett and wife of the late Norman Aubrey Thompson. Dot began her working life at T.S. Simms where she met the love of her life, Norm. She then became a dedicated housewife. She was an excellent wife and mother and a marvelous cook. A woman of sterling character and deep Christian faith she was loved by all who knew her. Several years after her husband's death Dot took a position as a Secretary/Travel Planner for the Dominion Automobile Association until her retirement. She was very active as a Sunday School and Mission Band Teacher, Choir Member and Mission Guild Member at Victoria Street Baptist Church and Edith Avenue Baptist Church until illness intervened. Dot is survived by her sons, Rev. Charles Thompson (Linda) of Hartland, NB and Norman "Corky" Thompson (Kim Bailey) of Saint John, NB; grandchildren, Kate Thompson of Fredericton, NB, Rev. Brandon Thompson (Natalie) of Hartland, NB and Courtney Gilbey (Peter) of Fredericton, NB; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Julianna, Felicity and Kathryn Thompson; brothers, Murray Garnett (Marjorie), Lawrence Garnett (Beverley) and David Garnett (Bernice); sisters, Louise Hewitt and Donna Drew (Dave). She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Norman and her siblings, Douglas Garnett, Blanche Garnett, Patricia Belding and Gregory Garnett. A heart-felt note of appreciation is extended to the many wonderful individuals who have served as Home Care Workers, Care-Givers and Nurses over the many years while Dot suffered with severe Parkinson's Disease. Thanks also to Drs. Greg MacLean, A.N. Kristofferson and A. D. MacDougall for decades of faithful, effective and compassionate care. Visitation will be held at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John on Monday, November 25th, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral service to celebrate Dot's life will be held in the chapel at Brenan's Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 26th, 2013 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Charles Thompson and Rev. Brandon Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery following the service.
