Obituary of Sarah F. Gillis

It is with great sadness that the family of Sally (Bardsley) Gillis of Saint John wife of Dave Gillis announces her passing, which occurred on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 20, 1951 in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late John A. and Eileen J. (Sheehan) Bardsley. Sally was a 1969 graduate of St. Vincent’s High School and a 1972 graduate of the Saint John School of Nursing. She worked her entire career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in various aspects of nursing; truly a labour of love and dedication. Sally had many passions in life and was an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. In the early years, Sally and Dave along with their children enjoyed many vacations together. Together with Dave, Sally travelled to many destinations down south, Ireland and Europe; her favourite being the Tuscany area of Italy. She always loved family gatherings with aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sally was blessed with a great smile and vivacious personality. She will be sadly missed. In addition to her husband Dave of 36 years, Sally is survived by her children: Emily Allaby (Michael) of Saint John and Matthew Gillis (Erin) of Moncton; grandsons (who were the love of her life): Samuel and Connor Allaby and Jeremiah and Theo Breau-Gillis; sister, Jane Agar of Saint John; brothers: John (Bea) of Halifax, Robert (Maureen) and Andrew (Nancy) both of Rothesay; aunts, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth "Beth" Embelton. Sally’s family wish to thank doctors L. Stephenson, M. Brunell and F. Naz; as well as the staff at Extra Mural and Palliative Care for the excellent care provided to her. The compassion shown towards Sally and her family will never be forgotten. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, October 24, 2013 from 7:00-9:00 PM and Friday, October 25, 2013 from 2:00-8:00 PM.
