Obituary of M. Doris Hughes

M. Doris Hughes of Summerville, wife of the late Walter H. Hughes, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 16, 2013 at her residence. Born in Saint John on October 28, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Maud (Brown) Lizotte. During her years in Saint John, Doris worked at MRA’s and in the grocery store she and Walter operated in the North End. In her spare time, Doris, who was known by everyone as "Grandma", enjoyed gardening and jigsaw puzzles, and especially her great grandson Robert, who was the apple of her eye. Doris is survived by her children, Patricia Kyle (Raymond) and their children Jannah (Blake) and Scott (Dee); Marion McCann (Stephen) and their children Trent and Alana; and step-son Dwight Hughes (Pam) and their children Mark, Julie, Brad, and Lori; several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, including great niece Teena Surette, who was special to Doris. The last surviving member of her immediate family, Doris was predeceased by two brothers, Dorie and Henry Lizotte, two sisters, Mary Bennett and Georgina Dow, as well as a grandson, Dylan Kyle. Although there will be no visitation time, relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside funeral service, which will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Summerville United Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to the Summerville United Church, the Canadian Cancer Society, or the KV Extra Mural Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
