Obituary of M. Grace Alderman

Mary Grace Alderman, formerly of Grand Bay-Westfield, wife of the late Donald James Alderman, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2013 at Georgetown, ON. Born in Saint John on December 4, 1931, she was the only child of the late Clement Herbert and Mary Theresa (Butler) Shannon. Grace was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School, St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and McGill University. She was a Nursing Instructor at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Saint John School of Nursing, as well as in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. She was active in St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing Alumni, and volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and with Hospice of Saint John. She was an active member of St. Augustine’s Parish. Upon moving to Ontario she continued to volunteer with the Holy Cross Parish HELPS committee and the Halton Food Bank. Grace is survived by two sons, Donald Alderman (Joan) and Michael Alderman (Carol), both of Georgetown, Ontario; a daughter-in-law, Janet Rieksts-Alderman of Toronto, Ontario; grandchildren Christopher (Joumana), Gina (Jesse), Jennifer (Mathew), Sara, and Emma; and great grandchildren Hannah, Kamilla, and Kaden. In addition to her husband, Grace was predeceased by a son, John "Mark" Alderman. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM from St. Matthew’s Church, 45 Dollard Drive, Saint John. Interment will take place in St. Augustine’s Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Centre, the Canadian Cancer Society, or St. Augustine’s Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
