Obituary of Frances Dorothy Levesque

The death of Frances Dorothy Levesque of 55 Smythe Street, Saint John occurred suddenly and peacefully Monday, August 12, 2013 following a stroke. Born at Port-Daniel, Gaspe Peninsula, Quebec August 24, 1925, she was the eldest of nine children of the late Leo and Helen (Jones) Gagnon. Following her education she worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia in Port-Daniel until her marriage in 1950 to the late Charles E. Levesque. She and Charlie relocated to Saint John in 1956. Fran devoted her life to her family and was a loving mother and Gran to her six children, sons- and daughters-in-law, and her 10 grandchildren. Fran took enormous delight in her children and grandchildren and revelled in their accomplishments. She was renowned for her cooking skills and she enjoyed passing along recipes, techniques and secrets to help her family master her love of entertaining. Fran and Charlie were community activists who engaged in good deeds that spanned a broad range of charity work, a practice they passed to their children. She was a faithful and active member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and later the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She was a former member of the CWL and a long-time volunteer with Ten Thousand Villages. She is survived by her children Louise Gould (A. Douglas), Saint John, Joel (Moira), Quispamsis, NB, Tom (Lori Arnold), Halifax, NS, Anne Driscoll (Mark), Saint John, Paul (Judy Green), Saint John, and Robert (Andrea), Saint John. Frances is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Leo (Nicole) of Montreal, Raynald (Helene), Montreal, Opal Richard (Len), Ottawa, Marcella Keays (James), Gaspe, QC, Leona Gravel, Montreal, and Noella Gagnon of Quebec City as well as her grandchildren, Chris (Raynell McDonough) and Lindsey Levesque, Suzanne Fraser (Scott) and Natalie Gould (fiancé Duncan Beattie), Nicolas and Simon Levesque, Patrick and Caroline Driscoll, and Julian and Teddy Levesque. She was predeceased by an infant son, her brother Dr. Alban Gagnon, and sister Theresa Castonguay. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (506-634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, August 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Dufferin Row, Saint John West on Friday, August 16 at 12 noon. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Sand Cove Road, Saint John West.
