Obituary of Leslie Paul Garnett

Leslie Paul Garnett of Saint John, husband of the late Mary B. (Boyle) Garnett, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John on April 10, 1930, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary (Johnston) Garnett. Les was a painter by trade, and was a long time member of Local 1151 of the Painters and Allied Trades Union, where he also served as Vice-President for 10 years. He was also a member of the Buffalo Club, and enjoyed reading and watching television in his spare time. Les is survived by his children, Sharon Laurie of Saint John, and Patrick Garnett (Verlyne) of Saint John; grandchildren Christopher, Andrew, Patrick Jr., and Stephanie; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Being the last surviving member of a family of twelve, Les was predeceased by brothers Ronald, Norman, Leroy, Morris, Peter, and Gregory; and by sisters Joan, Doris, Yvonne, Midge, and Barbara. Although there will be no visitation, relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 12:10 PM from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 91 Waterloo Street. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. For those who wish remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the New Brunswick Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
