Obituary of Kenneth H. Bowes

Bowes, Kenneth Harris – The death of Ken Bowes, husband of the late Grace Bowes (Sexton), formerly of Alward Street occurred at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home on Monday, March 4, 2013. He was born on June 20, 1927 in Saint John to the late Wilfred and Eleanor (Shannon) Bowes. Ken started working at an early age for Priddle’s Grocery, moving to CN Rail at the age of sixteen starting as a "red cap". He had a long career with CN retiring after 44 years of service. Ken was a member of the CN Pensioners, Millidgeville Seniors and honorary member of the Main Brace Naval Veterans Association. Ken was an avid fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. He is survived by his step-daughters: Deborah Riordon (Guy), Joan Wilson (Reg) and Mary Lou Doucette (Chris); step-sons: Tony Elford (Anne) and John Elford; sisters: Frances Leaver and Gerry Collrin (Leroy); sisters-in-law: Carol Bowes, Nena Basha (Reg), Blanche Rousell and Rhoda Sexton; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Grace and his parents, Ken was predeceased by a sister, Georgina Bowes, brother, Ron Bowes and brother-in-law, Frank Leaver. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan's Chapel on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 am with the family receiving friends from 10:00 -11:00. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring. For those who wish, remembrances to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
