Obituary of Barbara Doreen Carvell

Barbara Doreen Carvell of Saint John, wife of Gordon D. Carvell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with family by her side. Born in Saint John on November 17, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Myrtle (Steeves) Perry. Barb worked at the Dr. Roberts Hospital School for 20 years, and then operated a Special Care Home in Martinon for several years before retiring. She was a member of Full Gospel Assembly and the Women’s Missionary Fellowship, and volunteered at several Saint John area nursing homes and the hospital, ministering to those who were ill. In her spare time, Barb enjoyed shopping and was an avid attender of summer yard sales. In addition to her husband of 54 years, Barb is survived by her children, Kevin Carvell (Barb) of Saint John, Chris Carvell (Chantal) of Saint John, and Lisa Wilson (David) of Maces Bay; grandchildren Kevin Jr, D.J., Willie, Amelia, and Kyle; great grandchildren Marc and Mariah; a sister, Francine Fillier; and several cousins. Barb was predeceased by brothers Donald, Douglas, and Wendell Perry. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday from 6-8 PM and Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The Funeral Service will be held from Brenan’s Chapel on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 2:30 PM. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery on Monday at 11:30 AM.
