Obituary of Josephine Elizabeth Murphy

Josephine "Jo" Elizabeth (Daley) Murphy passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Born on March 20, 1917, she was the daughter of the late James and Catherine Daley. Jo was the loving wife of the late Louis M. Murphy. Jo was a graduate of St. Vincent’s High School in 1936. She worked at Daniels, Bardsley’s Hats and Calps. She was a charter member of St. Pius X C.W.L., as well as a member of Rocmaura Nursing Home Auxiliary, St. Joseph’s Auxiliary, Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary and St. Vincent’s Alumnae. She was a volunteer at Rocmaura Nursing Home and St. Pius X Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and knitting as well as baking with her specialty being her home made donuts. Surviving are her sons, Arthur (Carol) Murphy, Saint John; Gordon (Jeanie) Murphy, Ottawa; Douglas (Mary) Murphy, Woodstock; Bernard (Nancy) Murphy, Saint John; and Richard (Judy) Murphy, Saint John; daughters, Louise (Joseph) O’Connor, Saint John; and Marie (Allan Keith) Murphy, Saint John; Sister, Marjorie Murphy, New Maryland; brother, James (Joan) Daley, Fredericton; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Louis, she was predeceased by her son, Peter; brother, Theodore; sisters, Sister Dorothy Daley, Ursula O’Leary, Carm Gormley; and Gertrude McCann; grandson, Matthew Murphy. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Pius X Church on Monday, June 18, 2012 at 10 am. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
