Obituary of M. Evelyn Kelly

Surrounded by her family, the death of Evelyn Kelly, wife of the late John Kelly, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, May 14, 2012. She was born February 26, 1927 in Saint John to the late J. Felix and Ellen (Riley) Rourke. Evelyn was a proud Saint Vincent’s graduate, who worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia as a teller, taking time off to raise her five children, then returning to the bank and rekindling many of her old friendships. Ev loved the people of Holy Trinity Parish, and was a member of the C.W.L, serving as treasurer for many years .Mom loved watching sports, especially her cherished Notre Dame. Most of all, Ev was a devoted wife to John, a caring mom to her children, a beloved Nana to her grandchildren, and a good friend to many. She was a gentle, caring soul, who loved to laugh and smile, and who always had a pleasant manner. Evelyn is survived by her five children: David of Saint John, Peter (Melanie) of Quispamsis, Michael (Denise) of Port Hastings, NS, Barb Deep (Chris) of Saint John and Paul (Susan) of Saint John; sisters: Pat Carter and Joan Nelson (Ken); grandchildren: Sam, Ben, Caroline, Will, Riley, Connor, Braden, Julia, Jenna, Emma, Brady and nieces and nephews: Ron Carter (Barb), Brian Carter (Karen), Cathy McLean (John), Jeff Nelson (Jen) and Jen Campbell (Al).Besides her husband and parents, Evelyn was predeceased by an infant daughter; infant grandson, Brendan; brother, Ronald Rourke, niece, Susan Nelson Sullivan and brother-in-law, Tony Carter. Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) with visiting on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Trinity Church, Rockland Road on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 12 noon. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances to Rocmaura Nursing Home or Holy Trinity Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
