Obituary of Sara 'Sally' Gillmor Taylor

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Sally Taylor of Rothesay, NB, which occurred on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Cleveland Ohio on January 15, 1922 she was a daughter of the late Malcolm Scovil and Dorothy Lee (Brown) Kingsley. Sally was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Sally was a wonderful hostess and loved to entertain. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her so much joy. A special thank you to Flo Ellis for her caring companionship and support. Sally attended the Pratt School of Art and Design in Brooklyn New York. She was a long time member of St Paul’s Church, Rothesay and was a volunteer with the Altar Guild for many years. She was a Girl Guide Leader, a docent at the New Brunswick Museum, and together with her great friend Aileen MacLaren coordinated art shows at the Saint John Regional Library. She was President of the Netherwood Foundation, a member of the Union Club, Riverside Country Club, the Eclectic Reading Club and the Kennebecasis Garden Club. In her youth she loved canoeing at Lake Temagami, and was a lifelong supporter of the Arts. She also curled for many years and was an avid bird watcher and bridge player. She is survived by her children, Frances Phinney (Richard Franke); William Gresh (Dorothy); David Gresh (Jane); Christina Taylor Overing (Eric) , and eleven grandchildren, Mark Phinney (Joanna), Scott Phinney, William Gresh, Jonathan Gresh, Nicholas Gresh, Sara Branch (Andrew), Gillian Gresh, Elizabeth Gresh, Alexandra Overing, Taylor Overing and Robin Overing; three great-grandchildren, Veronica Phinney, Diana Phinney and David Branch; one sister, Anne Torrey (Kingsley) of Philadelphia, PA; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband, William K. Gresh; second husband, Frederic S. Taylor; two brothers, Sam Scovil and Bob Kingsley. In keeping with Sally’s wishes there will be no formal visitation. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 4:00 pm from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Rothesay, NB. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 10:00 am at Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Imperial Theatre Foundation.
