Obituary of Pauline Tomney

Pauline Tomney, aged 87, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2011 at Embassy Hall in Quispamsis, NB, after a lengthy period of failing health. A powerful example of determination and resilience, Pauline lived her life with great spirituality and generosity, devoting much of her energy to the care of others. She spent many years volunteering with Birthright, her church and community. Above all, she was passionate in her dedication to all things family. Pauline was predeceased by her husband Doug, sisters Ruth (Daniluk), Dorothy (Maloney), and Mary (Doolan) and brothers Joseph and Arthur. She is survived by one sister Renaud (Sullivan), Montreal, and her loving children, Terry (Monica), Quispamsis, NB; Paula (Malcolm) Pitman, Bridgewater, NS; and Cathleen (Rob) Belliveau, Quispamsis, NB. She was much loved Nana to Madelaine (Chris), Genevieve (Rob), Angela, Gregory, Hilary, Jennifer, Olivia, Christian, Julia, Jessica and Isaac. She is also survived by sister in- law Barbara Demers, and many nieces and nephews. Born in Newcastle, NB, Pauline was a daughter of Arthur Stuart and Octavia (Murdock) Demers and a graduate of St. Martha’s School of Nursing in Antigonish. Pauline was an avid sports enthusiast and walked miles each day. She was a creative quilter, loved entertaining, and being a woman of style as well as substance, she loved shopping for hats to add to her collection. She cherished the company of friends especially the remarkable ladies in her ‘Club’. Visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Windsor Street, Halifax on Wednesday June 1, from 5 to 8pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint John the Baptist Church, Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax on Thursday, June 2nd, at 2:00 pm. Remembrances may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital or the Crescent Valley Resource Center in Saint John, NB.
