Smith, Mary Lillian Cummings … The death of Mary Lillian Cummings Smith of Saint John, NB, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Evanston, Cape Breton, NS on March 25, 1917 she was a daughter of the late Robert and Mary Anna (MacNamara) King. Lillian was Catholic by faith and attended St. Augustine’s church in Westfield for many years. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, music, dancing and playing cards … she especially loved the ace of hearts. A fabulous cook who never missed an opportunity to feed anyone who came to visit, Lillian loved children and was a Nanny to many. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to mourn one son, Robert Ronald Cummings of Oromocto, NB; granddaughter, Debbie (Raymond) Leblanc of Saint John; three sisters, Marion MacLellan, Mary MacDonald and Bernice (Russell) Barber; two brothers, Herbert and Duncan King; one step-daughter, Gail Ryan; her best friends, Lynn Worden and Holly Glennie and their families; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband, Gregory Cummings; her second husband, Frank Joseph Smith; her daughter, Mary Margaret Thompson; four brothers, Eldridge, Lawrence, Bobby and Clifton; one sister, Irene; three grandsons, Bernard, Bernard Jr., and David. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 6347424 with visiting on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Augustine’s Church, 279 Nerepis Rd., Westfield on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 12 noon. Interment will be in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances may be made to any charity of choice.
