Obituary of Elizabeth Scott ‘Betty’ O’Neill

The death Elizabeth Scott ‘Betty’ O’Neill occurred on January 31, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born at Long Reach, NB she was the daughter of the late John Dorset and Gertrude May (Scott) Williams. She retired in 1976 from the DVA Hospital as Nursing Supervisor and owned and operated O’Neill’s Country Store, Kingston Peninsula with her husband. She had been a member of St. Paul’s Valley Anglican Church, a member of the CNR Pension and a life member of the Kingston Peninsula Heritage Inc. Surviving are her sons Ian MacGarvie (Faye) of Saint John, Blair O’Neill (Susan) of Halifax, Michael O’Neill (Bonnie) of Long Reach, daughter Dawn Lent (Raymond) of Hampton, grandchildren Troy, Derek, Andrea, Kimberlee, Deirdre, Rebecca, Kelsey and Brianna, great-grandchildren Nicholas, Zachery and Lynne and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her 1st husband Wallace Donald MacGarvie, 2nd husband Donald J. B. O’Neill, son Aubrey David MacGarvie and sister Lilian Clara Laming. Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (506-634-7424), Saint John, NB with visiting on Saturday from 7-9 pm and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, at 10:00 am, from Brenans Chapel. Interment at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances made to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Extra Mural Program or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
