Obituary of Leonard William ‘Bill’ McKiel

The death of Leonard William ‘Bill’ McKiel, husband of the late Dorothy Irene (Gaynes) McKiel, occurred on November 10, 2007 at his residence, Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late William Carey and Mabel Alice (Love) McKiel. He retired from the Province of New Brunswick in 1984. He served overseas during WW II as a Petty Officer, was a charter member of the Main Brace Club and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14. He was a member of St. Pius X Parish and belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council # 6581 and was an active member of the Friends of St. Joseph’s. He was a former member of Thisle St. Andrews Curling Club. Surviving are sons; William M. of Innisfail, AB, John Douglas (Theresa) of Hampton, Paul R. (Anne) of Dartmouth, NS, daughters; Donna Marie (John McDermott) of Dartmouth, NS, Mary Susan (James Gatien) of Grand Bay- Westfield, Collen Marie of Hampton, 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been predeceased by brothers James, Arthur, and Robert and sister Phyllis (Charles Doucette.) Resting at Brenans Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424) with visiting on Sunday from 7-9 pm and Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute to a Veteran’s Service will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am from St. Pius X Church, followed by cremation. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances made to St. Pius X Building Fund or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
