Obituary of Mary Josephine Elizabeth Vincent

Mary Josephine Elizabeth (Marshall) Vincent of Saint John, passed away Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born November 26, 1922 in Marshalltown, Digby County, NS, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Geneva Marshall. Mary graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, Public Health Diploma Program from Dalhousie University and the Administration Diploma Program from the University of Toronto. She was a public health nurse in Nova Scotia for 14 years and the last few years that she worked in Public Health she was a Supervisor in the Dartmouth office. Following her marriage to Albert Vincent in 1961 Mary resided in Saint John and she became Supervisor of Outpatients at the Saint John General Hospital. After her nursing career she became Administrator of Health and Welfare of the Atlantic Provinces Trowel Trades (bricklaying, tile setters, etc.). She also served as first vice-president of the Saint John Branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association. In the 1950's Mary developed Multiple Sclerosis and in spite of her decreasing mobility she always maintained a sense of humour, self-confidence and independence. She is survived by her husband Albert Vincent, niece Genevieve Keen (Robert Burke), Dartmouth, NS; nephews Emerson Keen (Jacqueline), Stewiack, NS and Danny Vincent, Saint John; several great-nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sisters Maude (infant) and Marjorie (Chester) Keen. Mary will be deeply missed by her family. Resting at St. John Baptist (Mission Church) and St. Clement, 819 Millidge Avenue, Saint John, NB, with visiting on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at the church on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Marshalltown, NS on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 1:00 PM.
