Obituary of James Pettingell BEYEA

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of James Pettingell Beyea, husband of Velma Olive (Wetmore) Beyea of Saint John, NB, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at home with his family at his side. Born in Gondola Point, NB on December 3, 1919, a son of the late James Andrew and Louise (Pettingell) Beyea. After a very courageous struggle the gentleman and gentle man of Pugsley Ave. has gone to be at home with his Saviour. James had volunteered with the Royal Canadian Navy and served during World War II on Motor Torpedo Boats in the English Channel, following his discharge he served as Staff Sergeant at # 102 Manning Depot for thirteen years, then later was employed with Veterans Affairs for thirty-five years at the DVA Hospital. Jim and Velma had just celebrated their 63rd. Wedding Anniversary on October 15 , 2006. The recent arrival of four great-grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. Jim dearly loved children and had a wonderful way with them; whether the children in the neighborhood or his grandchildren or great-grandchildren. He was always prepared to help one and all whether mowing lawns or shoveling snow for older (often younger then himself) people in the community. Sadly missed by his loving wife, Velma; two children: Donald (Jane) Beyea of Saint John and Lynda (David) Shaw of Rothesay, NB; a sister, Edith Landry of Saint John; seven grandchildren: Kimberly (Greg) Armstrong (nee Shaw) of Ottawa, ON, Tracey (Bill) LeRoy (nee Shaw) of Rothesay, Craig Shaw (Michelle Power) of Saint John, Steven (Wendy) Beyea of Dartmouth, NS, Janet (Marc) Beyea-Desrosier of Kanata, ON, Emily and Caroline Beyea, both of Saint John; four great-grandchildren: Ella and William LeRoy, Connor Armstrong and Aaron Desrosier; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother, George P. Beyea and several half-brothers and half-sisters. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday Evening at 7 pm. Funeral Service will be held from St. Luke’s Church, Main St. Saint John on Monday, October 23, 2006 at 11 am. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to St. Luke’s Church or a charity of the donor’s choice.
