Obituary of Alfred E. Martin

The death of Alfred Ernest Martin of Saint John, NB, husband of Shirley Cawley, occurred on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. Born in Saint John, NB, he was a son of the late Charles and Asta (Larsen) Martin. Alfred was employed as an engineer with Revenue Properties until his retirement. Alfred had served in World War II with the 13th Field Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53 Jervis Bay, Horseman’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on cars with son Shawn. Besides his wife, Shirley he is survived by sons, Warrant Officer Whitney (Michelle) Cawley with the Royal Canadian Navy of British Columbia; Jeffery (Jacqueline) Cawley of Quispamsis, Shawn (Krista) Cawley, Jason (Amanda) Cawley both of Saint John; Alfred, Kenneth, David, Stephen Martin, daughters, Linda, Joanne, Patricia and Deborah, brother Henry “Ozzie” Martin of Saint John; sister Bernell, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and his companion Soul the dog. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Ralph, Wallace and Albert. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday and Friday, October 5 & 6, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2006 from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery, Field of Honour. Remembrances may be made to Ridgewood Veterans Wing or the Animal Rescue League. There will be a Tribute to a Veteran Service on Friday at 7:00 pm.
