Obituary of Shirley Lillian SOMERS

The death of Shirley Lillian (MacAvoy) Somers of Rocmaura Nursing Home, Saint John, beloved wife of the late Clifford Somers, occurred on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at her residence. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Mary (Taylor) MacAvoy. Mrs. Somers was an employee at Holiday Inn for several years prior to her retirement. Shirley was a member of Silver Falls United Church and their UCW and was a former member of the Canadian Order of Foresters. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed. Shirley’s “home” has been Rocmaura Nursing Home for almost fourteen years. The family wish to express their appreciation to all of the staff, “God’s angels”, who have always given Shirley such loving care. She is survived by one son, Donald (Marilyn) of Saint John; two daughters: Dale Bates (Carl) of Saint John and Valerie Moore (David) of Fredericton, NB; eight grandchildren, Carol Anne, Paul, Steven, Julie, James, Catherine, Christine and Joshua and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one brother, James MacAvoy. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424 with visiting on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, September 18, 2006 at 2:15 pm. Interment in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Remembrances may be made to Rocmaura Nursing Home Palliative Care Unit.
