Obituary of Murray J. O’Connor

It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Murray J. O’Connor, age 72, of Saint John on Thursday, August 31, 2006 after a brief stay in hospital following a stroke. Born and raised in Goshen, he was the son of the late Harry and Teresa (nee Curran) O’Connor. Remembered for his friendly smile and hearty laugh, Murray was recognized by many from his home delivery service of bread and milk in the city for over 40 years until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement, Murray returned to the workforce as a driver and delivery coordinator for CARQUEST where he was employed until his passing. Besides work, Murray’s life totally revolved around his three sons, their wives and his precious grandchildren. He was a beloved father, trusted advisor and best friend to sons Dan (Shari) of Saint John, Greg (Colleen) of Quispamsis and Adam (Tina) of Fredericton and the world’s proudest Papa of grandchildren Andrew, Mark, Madison and Logan. He would often be found helping out with projects around their homes, babysitting or just visiting. A “jack of all trades”, he was always willing to give a helping hand to family, friends, co-workers or anyone else who needed it. He is also survived by three brothers, Walter (Mildred) of Rhode Island, Raymond (Fran) of Penobsquis and Everett (Marion) of Hampton, two sisters, Rita Mullaney of Rhode Island and Stella Fogarty (Gerry) of Halifax, NS, sister-in-law, Margaret O’Connor of Saint John, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Austin and Clement O’Connor. Many will remember Murray for his love and devotion to his family. He will be sadly missed. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim’s Church, on Saturday, September 2, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick would be appreciated.
