Obituary of David Filliter

Filliter, David: The death of David Forsyth Filliter of 99 Beach Crescent, Saint John, NB, occurred on Monday, August 21, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Predeceased by his first wife Verta (Roberts) Filliter and his second wife Joanna (Cann) Filliter. Survived by two sons: George Peter Lindsay Filliter and his wife Barbara Baird of Fredericton; Jeffrey Roberts Filliter and his wife Catherine of Stoney Creek, Ontario and by his daughter Dr. Nancy Filliter Kamra and her husband Dr. Ravi Kamra of Waterville, Maine, U.S.A.; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and two brothers George Richard of Dartmouth, N.S. and Brian of Peterborough, Ontario and a number of nieces and nephews. Born in Magog, Quebec the son of the late George and Julia Blanche (Hall) Filliter. Enlisting in 1939 he served as a Field Artillery Officer with the First Canadian Infantry Division in Sicily, Italy and North West Europe. After moving to Saint John in 1946 he spent several years working with a number of the Irving Group of Companies and thereafter was self employed as a Management Consultant and Entrepreneur in a variety of industrial fields. He was mainly instrumental in the formation of the Society of Industrial & Cost Accountants of New Brunswick (later known as Certified Management Accountants). Served as Charter President in 1950. During his years in Saint John he was actively involved in volunteer work with the Y.M.C.A., the United Way, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Boy Scouts of Canada and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. He served as President of the United Services Institute. In recent years he served in various capacities as an Executive, National Representative and Chairman of Governors of the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, was awarded the D.S.M. He had been a member of the Parrtown Club, the Union Club, the Westfield and Riverside Golf Clubs, the R.K.Y.C., the Beaver Lake and Moss Glen Fishing Clubs, the Miramichi Salmon Association, the St Andrews and Carleton Curling Clubs the Probus Club and for many many years he served as “Padre” of the Byng Boys Club. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (634-7424) with visiting on Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Church of St. John Baptist St. Clement (Mission Church), 815 Millidge Avenue on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers remembrances to the charity of ones choice would be sincerely appreciated. A Tribute to a Veterans Service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 7:00 pm.
