Obituary of Geoffrey C. L. Oland

Surrounded by his loving family, Geoffrey Charles Lannen (Bob) Oland of Rothesay, New Brunswick, husband of Nancy Alyere (Wedge) Oland, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 05, 2006. Born in Saint John, NB, he was the son of the late Geoffrey C. W. and Mildred (Lannen) Oland. He spent his youth in Saint John and was a graduate of St. Vincent’s Boy’s High School. Bob then attended St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS from which he graduated in 1953. He was also a graduate of Siebel Institute of Technology & World Brewing Academy in 1954. He then went on to work with his father, Geoffrey C. W. Oland, at Red Ball Brewing where he was the Plant Manager for a number of years. Following his brewing career, Bob was associated with the field of Real Estate for many years. He had served terms as President of the Saint John Real Estate Board, President of the New Brunswick Real Estate Board, President of the Atlantic Provinces Real Estate Association and as Director of the Canadian Real Estate Association. Bob was a long time member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Rothesay. Music was a great part of Bob’s life and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends with his accordion at “Poppy’s Reach”. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; four sons, Capt. Geoffrey A. Oland of Apohaqui, NB, Father Erik, S.J. of Guelph, ON, Michael (Jane) Oland of Rothesay, NB, and Timothy (Courtney) Of Maine, U.S.A.; three daughters, Mary Jo (Allison) Maxwell, Martha (Phillip) Millard, and Bridget Oland (Guy Guitard), all of Rothesay, NB; one sister, Mary Jane Nagle of Rothesay, NB; brother-in-law, J. Arthur Flood, Rothesay, NB; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Hogg (George) of Mississauga, ON; eleven grandchildren, Brendon, Timothy and Alison Maxwell; Joshua, Emily and Bobby Millard; Laura, Geoffrey and Liam Oland; and Quincy and Amelia Guitard; and several nephews and nieces. A sister, Ann Flood and brother-in-law, Michael T. Nagle predeceased him. Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) with visitation on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Rothesay, NB on Friday at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Romero House Soup Kitchen or a charity of the donor’s choice.
