Obituary of Susan Esther D'Arcy

The death of Susan Esther D'Arcy, of Saint John, NB, occurred on Wednesday, April 6, 2006 at Kennebec Manor. Born in Joggin Bridge, NS, she was a daughter of the late Hiram and Louise (Laing) D'Arcy. Susan was a very dedicated and an active member in her church, the former Westside Kirk United Church, which is now Carleton Kirk United, active in the Carleton Kirk until her health failed in 1995. She loved children and for many years was Explorer Leader. In the late fifties until 1962 she was director of Christian Education at the First United Church in Bathurst, NB, and from 1962 until her retirement in June of 1980 was director of programming at the YWCA, for many summers she directed Camp Glenburn where she was affectionately known as "Sugar". Her joys in life included her family, friends, church, gardening and music. She is survived by five brothers: Glen (Audrey) of Saint John; Delbert (Ruth) of Hampton; Leycester D. QC of St. George; and Gilbert of USA; two sisters Jean (Norman) Wood of Saint John and Olive Metcalf of Toronto; sister-in-law, Isobelle D'Arcy; special niece and nephew, Sally Duguay and David D'Arcy; special great nephews, Jordi and Darcy; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Predeceased by a brother, James Sr.; brother-in-law, Eric Metcalf and sister-in-law, Lois D'Arcy. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424). At the request of the family there will be no visiting at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006 at 1:30 pm from Portland United Church, Newport Cr. off Millidge Ave., Saint John with interment following in Cedar Hill Old Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Bible Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
