Obituary of Gertrude Audrey McCARTNEY

The death of G. Audrey McCartney of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Oliver S. McCartney, occurred on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Red Head, a daughter of the late Andrew M. and J. Gertrude (Anthony) Dewar, Audrey graduated from Saint John High School and from Modern Business College in accounting and secretarial. She worked for Investors Syndicate (now Investors Group) and the Federal Government. Audrey was a member of Red Head United Church and was an active member of the UCW for 30 years. In her later years she attended St. Andrew and St. David Church. She volunteered with the Cancer Society, the Red Cross and the Saint John Volunteer Centre for 20 years. Audrey is survived by one son, Jack L. McCartney and one daughter, Carol (Stuart) Armstrong, both of Saint John; three grandchildren, Kevin Armstrong of Edmonton, AB, Robert Armstrong of Guelph, ON and Jennifer Armstrong (Fiancé, Trevor Doherty) of Halifax, NS; two nephews, Donald Smith of West Saint John and Gary G. Vincent of Toronto, ON; a niece, Joan (Ted) Robinson of Barrie, ON and several cousins. Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by two brothers, Harry M. and A. Glendon Dewar; a half-sister, Elsie Smith; a niece, Claire (Robert) Arnold and a great grandson, Kehewin Armstrong. Audrey was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506) 634-7424. By Audrey's request there will be no visiting and a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
