Obituary of Joan Marie Smith

The death of Joan Smith of Brunswick Drive, Saint John South (formerly of Grand Bay-Westfield) occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on February 18th, 2006. Born on February 19th, 1951, in Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of John “Jack” and Nancy (Short) Hamilton. Joan was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother all of her life. She thought of others before she thought of herself. Besides her parents, Joan is survived by two daughters: Nancy (Chris) Rooney of Grand Bay-Westfield, NB and Crystal (Rob) Noftell of Saint John, NB and their father Wilfred Smith; four grandchildren Douglass, George, Owen Rooney and Jenna Noftell; three brothers John, Robert (Cynthia) and Richard (Wendy) Hamilton; long time companion Robert Smith and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters Mary Jean Hamilton and Shirley McGuire. Arrangements are entrusted to Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB 634-7424. At Joan's request there will be no visitation, a funeral service will be held at Brenan's Chapel on Tuesday, February 21st, 2006 at 11 am. Interment will follow the funeral service in Ocean View Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to New Brunswick Lung Association, Romero House or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick.
