Obituary of Allan Melanson

The death of Allan Melanson of Saint John, husband of Rita (Kiley) and proud father of Judy, occurred on November 5, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late William and Annie Melanson. He was a graduate of Saint John High School, class of 1941. Mr. Melanson spent his entire work- life on the waterfront. He was superintendent at Toledo Overseas Terminals in Toledo, Ohio, from 1960-1961 and was Manager-Ship Operations for Transoceanic Terminal Corporation in Chicago, Illinois, from 1961 through to 1978. He retired from Forterm here in Saint John in 1988. Mr. Melanson was an avid skater and he and his wife never missed Wednesday and Sunday night skates at the Lancaster Centennial Arena with Pat Graham at the organ. During his retirement, Mr. Melanson enjoyed morning tea and conversation at Market Square and was a faithful supporter of the Saint John Flames. He was a fan of NFL football cheering on the Chicago Bears even in their worst seasons. Mr. Melanson enjoyed many vacations with his family in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a member of the ILA Local #273 and was a member of St. Peter's Parish. Besides his wife Rita and daughter Judith he is survived by his brother Harold and sisters Elda and Bertha, all of Saint John, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother George and his sister Thelma. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at 10:00 am, from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
