Obituary of Marlene Mary-Jane (Lynch) Charlton

CHARLTON, MARLENE MARY-JANE “MARTY” (BAILEY) (LYNCH) ? The death of Marty Charlton of Saint John, NB, occurred on October 1, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Gordon (Chick) Charlton and C. E. (Mike) Lynch. Born in Saint John on September 17, 1935, Marty was the daughter of the late Kingsley and Reta-Jane (Kirkpatrick) Bailey. She graduated from Saint John Vocational School in 1953 and was awarded “Female Athlete of the Year.” She worked as a secretary at N.B. Tel, Dr. C. Seamen's and the Canadian Pacific Railway. She was a member of Victoria Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and later Forest Hills Baptist Church. She was active in fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society, Kidney Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the Salvation Army. Marty was a member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club “Niners.” Great family memories were made at the cottage at Crystal Beach, where she and Gordie spent their summers. Marty also loved her winters with Gordie in Florida. One of Marty's most cherished activities was her weekly card club with her great friends of 40 odd years; They were always there for each other. Other interests include Bible Study, curling and playing her harpsichord and ukulele. Marty is survived by her daughters Cindy (Lynch) (James) Hall of Quispamsis, NB and Crystal (Lynch) (Paul) Hutchings of Saint John; son Scott (Eliete) Lynch of Coquitlam, BC.; three step-children: sons Rick (Shelley) Charlton and Steve (Brenda) Charlton of Quispamsis, and daughter Elsa (Charlton) (Pat) Russell of Saint John/Belleisle Bay. She was also the proud and loving grandmother of Chase and Drew Hall, Marlie and Heather Hutchings, Lauren, Grace and Grey Lynch, Vanessa, Stephanie and Adam Charlton, Laura and Kyle Charlton, and Brent and Rebecca Russell; sisters: Audrey (Leonard) (Crow) Crawford, Lorraine (Leonard) (Nick) Nichols, and Patsy (Joseph) Osborne. Marty was predeceased by her infant son Neil Kingsley Lynch, her brother Richard (Dick) Bailey, and her sister Reta-Marie Bailey. “We love and cherish you, Mom. Rest in peace, and remember us as we will remember you. The grandchildren will miss your sing songs around the bonfire” Our family would like to thank Mom's many friends and caregivers, staff and nurses from 3Csouth and Palliative Care at the Saint John Regional Hospital for the love, dignity, comfort they gave the family through the difficult days. Resting at Brenan's Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424), where the family will receive friends on Monday and Tuesday from 2 ? 4 and 7 ? 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 from Forest Hill Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. In keeping with Marty's dedication to the fight against cancer, which afflicted her late husband, Gordon (Chick) Charlton, the family is suggesting donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a favourite charity.
