Obituary of William John Boyne

With great sadness the family of Bill Boyne announces his death which occurred suddenly on Sunday, August 28, 2005. Born in Saint John, September 23, 1945 he was the son of the late Charles and Bertha (Floyd) Boyne. Educated at local schools, Bill graduated from Ryerson University where he obtained his land surveying credentials and began work with Marshall MacLin Co. in Toronto where he practiced his profession with enthusiasm and gained the respect and admiration of that 'very special breed of men', his brother land surveyors. The simple good life that the Maritimes offers drew Bill back to Saint John in 1972 when he joined the staff of Hughes Survey's Ltd. In 1975 he became part owner and took over complete operations in 1984. Those who knew Bill respected him for his honesty, professionalism, loyalty and integrity. He was a man of his word. Those who loved Bill will remember him as a strong loving family man devoted to his wife and children. Bill was generous, a welcoming host who was so happy when those he loved gathered together. It was quite something to hear his infectious Big Belly laugh. He laughed easily and often and had that rare gift of putting people at ease in his presence. Bill held strong opinions on many topics and always appreciated a good battle of wits. The great outdoors held special appeal to Bill, both personally and professionally. His later years at Hughes Survey's were spent mainly in the office however he still enjoyed stints 'in the field' where he maintained his excellent technical skills. Oct 1st was essentially a national holiday for Bill and his fellow duck hunters. He liked nothing more than being in the blind at dawn communing with nature and sharing the camaraderie of his hunting friends. Besides Hughes Survey's (from which he retired in 2002), Bill was involved with Fundy Fencing Ltd., Saint John, Project Engineering in Fredericton and Harts Island Development and served on the executive of The Association of New Brunswick Land Surveyors. Bill was, over the years, a member of the Saint John Rotary Club, Saint John Executive Club, Saint John Board of Trade, Ducks Unlimited, Thistle St. Andrews Curling Club, and the Masonic Lodge. Bill is survived by his wife Missy (Mary) Elaine MacPherson , daughter Stephanie and son Colin. He is also survived by his sister Carol (Bob) Hatfield. He is survived by one uncle, Frank Floyd (Irma), St. Martins, special cousin Roberta Stafford, as well as several nieces. great nieces, nephews, great nephews and cousins.
